This is a tool to help you calculate the DIM weight (dimensional or volume weight) of your shipment. Volume weight is used by airlines and steamship lines to calculate freight revenues. This is being calculated on the basis of "which ever generates the higher freight amount"! For international shipments using American standard measurements (dimensions in inches) the method is: (Number of Pieces X Length X Width X Height) / 166 = dim weight in pounds (international)
This calculator uses American standard measurements to calculate the dim weight in pounds.
If you need to know the dim weight in kilos, divide by 366 instead. You can use this to calculate if the dimensional weight is greater than the actual weight. Bricks, lead, gold and nuts and bolts are shipped as actual weight. On the other hand, feathers, pillows and most furniture "dims" to more than their actual weight. Your shipping rate per kilo is based on the greater of the real or dimensional weights. (US domestic air or truck freight uses the same method divided by 194.) Here below we give you five input lines for five different package sizes in your shipment.
