CHINA HOLIDAY NOTICE AND OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION Dear Customer: Most if not all of you probably already know but, just in case, we thought we would send this friendly reminder. Mainland China will be on Holiday for 7 days starting October 1 until October 7. You will find most if not all companies closed during that time. This holiday goes fittingly by the name of "China National Holiday" and has been declared by the China State of Council. As always, Hong Kong is not enjoying the same amount of time off. They will be closed on Monday, October 2nd and Saturday, October 7th. On another unrelated story, we thought we share with you the announcements made by the Transpacific Stabilization Agreement with its 11 members (practically all major ocean carriers in the Far East - USA Trade: 1) Peak Season Surcharge TSA have announced that they will extend the full Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) until February 28. This is an interesting statement because so far practically no carrier has applied their full PSS to our rates (except consolidation containers). In fact they are between 50% and 0% of the official numbers. Considering that, we shall have to see how serious the carriers will be to extend the PSS. 2) Rate increases for May 1, 2007 TSA members announced that due to falling profits mainly due to rising fuel costs they will implement a General Rate Increase (GRI) of $ 300.00/40' for base West Coast Ports, $ 650.00/40' for Inland destinations (IPI/MLB) such as St. Louis and $ 500.00/40' for East Coast ports via the Panama Canal (All Water Service). In my mind, the reason for the falling profits is because there is currently an over capacity of large vessels especially calling West Coast ports and as a result the market simply did not allow the carriers to increase rates as previously announced. Imports from the Far East have again risen sharply but not as sharply as the available carrier space. Many industry people including myself believe that this situation may not change again until 2008. I hope that they and I are correct. As always thank you very much for your business. Please feel free to contact us with any questions that you may have. Best regards,
Andreas Bauermeister
