Update

"IMPORTER SECURITY FILING"

10 + 2

Seajet continues its proactive approach to establishing clarity on the Importer Security Filing (also known as 10+2 or ISF).

The ISF filing regulations will go into effect in just a few more days on 26 January 2009! This means, ISF must be filed for every ocean freight shipment with an on-board date of 26 January 2009 and thereafter. ISF does not apply to shipments already on the water nor to air freight.

We have received a lot of inquiries and requests for clarification and this is showing us that there are a lot of miss understandings and confusion about these new regulations.

For that reason and to help you understand what is at stake, we are preparing PLAIN LANGUAGE text which will show you, that 10+2 is not as difficult to deal with as you may think.

Seajet is ready to assist you to comply and file your ISF.

We have already made a considerable capital investment by installing new software to allow us to file ISF through ABI and online via the Internet. We are registered with Customs as an ISF filing agent!

Even though the implementation date is just a few days away, Customs has yet to announce the amendments they intend to apply to customs bonds. We are of the understanding that there will be an ISF filing bond but there is still no decision on the bond amount for single or continuous bonds. Stay tuned, we will follow-up on this subject as soon as we receive new information.

GOOD NEWS!
Customs will not be issuing liquidated damage claims until 26 January 2010
Customs has stated that data gathering is their main focus during the phase-in period.

We also understand that future liquidated damage assessments may be limited to $5,000.00 which is dramatically less than the "full value" assessment spoken about, earlier.

Seajet continues to gather information about ISF and we will continue to distribute the same as we receive it.

As mentioned at the beginning of this update, Seajet is working on issuing

PLAIN LANGUAGE GUIDELINES

which you will receive by no later than Wednesday.

In the meantime, if you have questions, please contact us at

For those of you who wish to read-up on ISF, our PowerPoint slide show is available for viewing on the Seajet web site.
