California enacts "Clean Truck" Fees
Dear Customers and Friends of Seajet: The much debated and temporarily delayed implementation of the California "Clean Truck" program has moved forward and been reinstated on very short notice in early February. I am referring to our Seajet Shipping News sent in November 2008 on this subject (see www.seajet.com under News and then Archive) in which we advised the implementation of the Clean Truck Program effective November 17. Practically immediately after we announced the program we had to send out another message advising you that the implementation had been postponed due to a number of legal actions taken by various groups. However it appears that now this program will be implemented by the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach effective February 18. Covered are all containers entering or leaving the ports by truck including intermodal containers such as containers moving onto inland destinations by rail such as Chicago. This is different from the PierPass program which does not apply for such intermodal containers. The Clean Truck charges are $ 35.00/20’ and $ 70.00/40’ and larger containers and will be collected by Port Check. As for the Traffic Mitigation Fee through the PierPass program Seajet is registered with PortCheck and will be handling your PortCheck releases for a fee of $ 10.00 per container. Accordingly charges on our invoices will appear as follows: Port Check: $ 45.00/20’ - $ 80.00/40’ and larger units. The ports of Los Angeles, Long Beach and PortCheck have websites covering this subject in great detail: www.portcheck.org (PortCheck website) www.portoflosangeles.org (Port of Los Angeles website) www.polb.com/cleantrucks (Port of Long Beach website) As always, if you have any questions please feel free to contact us. We thank you for your support and remain With best regards Andreas
