Spring 2011 Finally a 2nd direct service to the Port of Boston from Asia
Dear Customers and Friends of Seajet! March 21st, 2002 marked an important day for the Port of Boston and New England importers and shippers. The Zhen He on which COSCO, YML, Hanjin and K-Line share space made its maiden voyage into Boston and made it the first direct service from Asia into Boston without trans-shipping through New York or the West Coast. This service was called AWE2 and it covered most ports in Asia either directly or through feeder service and represented the most cost effective shipping alternative for importers and exporters alike in New England. However a few years back the port rotation for this service was changed and it no longer covered Hong Kong and Yantian as base ports. This meant that containers from there had to be feedered to Yokohama in case of COSCO and Shanghai or Ningbo in case of the other three carriers. This extended the transit time by almost a week and added the unwelcome possibility of missing the connection to the mother vessel in either Yokohama, Ningbo or Shanghai. The rotation from base ports is: Qingdao Shanghai Ningbo Yokohama Panama Canal Savannah New York Boston. However now there will be direct coverage from the south of Asia. COSCO/YML/Hanjin will reconfigure their AWE5 service with the following port rotation: Kaohsiung Hong Kong Yantian Ho Chi Minh Singapore Suez Canal New York Norfolk - Boston Singapore. This will be a wonderful addition to the current AWE2 service as it will now connect the southern half of Asia (especially Yantian and Hong Kong) directly with Boston. The first vessel on this schedule will be the YM March V0069A sailing Hong Kong/Yantian 4/26/11 and 4/27/11 respectively. The ETA Boston is 05/27/11. This also means that transit times from Hong Kong and Yantian will be reduced by about 7 days. I believe that this is a very big deal for the Port of Boston and the entire importing and exporting community with containers in and out of New England. As always, we sincerely thank you for your continued support. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us at any time. Best regards, Andreas Bauermeister
