Dear Customer!

Typhoon Wipha Causes Shipments Delays in China

Typhoon Wipha flooded streets and destroyed hundreds of homes as it swept through eastern China on Wednesday, but the storm eventually weakened and caused little overall damage in the financial center of Shanghai. Wipha, which appeared unlikely to fulfill predictions that it could be the most powerful storm to hit eastern China in a decade, was downgraded to a tropical storm after it tore into the coast south of the city before dawn. By mid-afternoon, it was traveling northward to the west of the city. Shanghai closed schools, ferries and other transport links following forecasts of torrential rains and strong winds. Dozens of flights through Shanghai's two airports were canceled or delayed.

Our Hong Kong office reports, “The typhoon affected and stopped land and ocean traffic, so shipment delays could not be avoided.  Next week, the backlog will be large. In addition, the pre-holiday cargo rush (China Holidays will close businesses October 1-7) will possibly result in the ocean carriers rolling container bookings and an airfreight embargo”.

Our Shanghai office reports, “Due to Typhoon WeiPa attacking Shanghai, all ocean terminals are closed including both Yangshan and Waigaoqiao terminals. Thus, we expect that all vessels ETD will be delayed for at least 3 or 4 days”.

The Taipei office closed for one day due the storm, but reports no delays.

Our Korea office reports no closings or delays at this time.

Seajet will do whatever we can to expedite your freight!
